This painting by Rimvidas Jankauskas-Kampas could also be called a “double portrait”. We can discern the face of a woman with long hair, outlined in red in a childish style and, to her left, the dark profile of a man. Upon a closer look, we can see that the percentage of dark colors in the painting (black, blue, purple) is almost equal to the amount of lighter colors – light greens, reds, and blues, a fact that makes it hard not think about the yin and yang contrast of Eastern philosophies. Kampas did, indeed, take great interest in the Japanese graphic arts, carefully studying the works of such artists as Katsushita Hokusai and Utagawa Hiroshige.
